In January Microsoft is planning the roll-out of a giant upgrade programme for Internet Explorer (IE). The upgrade will mean that the browser will automatically install updates to the latest version unless the user decides to opt out.

Running an old version of IE is a problem for users as many websites will not display correctly, but more importantly old versions like IE6 are much less secure and often targeted by online scammers. Over 8.3% of all users worldwide still use IE6, a 10 years old version of the browser which Microsoft has been trying to kill off for a while.

Best advice for whatever browser you use is to ensure you regularly upgrade to the latest version.
