Ensure your site gets properly indexed by the search engines. To do this you need to make sure your site is setup correctly and includes things like a sitemap, redirects, an error page and appropriate links.
3. Improve your website structure
Search engines like sites that have a clean directory structure and all pages within minimum clicks.
4. Identify your best keyword phrases
It’s important to identify the most popular keyword phrases used by those searching for your services. You can make a start on this just by thinking about the likely search behaviour of your target groups, then research and test your keywords using a variety of tools.
5. Measure how well your site is ranking
Identify how your site is currently ranking for the identified keywords, do this initially to set a baseline, then at regular intervals as your site is optimised.
6. Optimise your pages
Decide which pages to optimise for which keywords and then ensure you use them effectively in your page content. Make sure all your page titles and meta descriptions are relevant, engaging and different from each other.
7. Add plenty of relevant content

Google will mark you down for duplicate content, so avoid it and also check that you’ re not inadvertently displaying duplicate content.

Links to your website can be very valuable in boosting your search rankings. The ideal inbound link is from a large well respected site, using relevant link text, with both the referring page and destination page having very strong relevance to the link text. A good strategy to develop inbound links is content marketing.
10. Check out your competitors
See how your competitors are ranking and then assess their sites to see how they are optimising themselves.
